Confirmed: 3 absent for Man Utd against Spurs + Pogba update

Manchester United are set to take on Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a perfect five out of five as caretaker manager since replacing Jose Mourinho in mid-December following last weekend’s 2-0 FA Cup win over Reading.

Tottenham Hotspur head into the weekend in third place whilst we are six points off the top four. A win would be huge in our bid to finish in the Champions League places this season.

The boss has been speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s game and has given a team news and injury update.

Ole was able to confirm that Paul Pogba is likely to be fit for our trip to the capital on Sunday. The French midfielder missed last weekend’s game after picking up a knock at the hands of a dangerous challenge from Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey. Solskjaer said:

“He [Pogba] looked okay towards the end [of the training camp], so he’ll be fit.

“He did have some problems but he came through the last couple of sessions well, so he should be okay.”

Paul Pogba has been instrumental during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s short reign, involved in six goals (4 goals, 2 assists) in his first four matches and was named as the Premier League Player of the Month for December as a result.

However, we will be without three centre-backs for the match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The Norwegian revealed that Marcos Rojo has gone back to his homeland with an injury. The Argentinian hasn’t featured since our 2-1 defeat to Valencia in mid-December. Ole said:

“He’s gone back to Argentina for a while with his injury.

“For him, it’s mentally important for him to get away and come back fresh again.”

Marcos Rojo joins Chris Smalling on the sidelines whilst Eric Bailly sits out the final game of his three-match ban and will be available to face Brighton & Hove Albion next weekend.
