Confirmed: 7 absent for Man Utd vs Southampton

Manchester United host Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday with an opportunity to move back into the top four should Arsenal fail to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the lunchtime kickoff.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been speaking to the media today at his pre-match press conference and has delivered a team news and injury update.

The positive news is that Marcus Rashford is fit to face the Saints after coming on as a substitute in our 3-1 win at Crystal Palace midweek. The forward had suffered an ankle injury in last Sunday’s stalemate against Liverpool.

Solskjaer confirmed the news to MUTV:

“Rashford is fully fit now. I’ll probably start him.”

The caretaker manager isn’t expecting to make too many changes from the side that won at Selhurst Park on Wednesday, which included Romelu Lukaku starting up front and Diogo Dalot down the right wing. Ole said:

“I don’t think there will be many changes.

“It’s the last session today, but we’re not going to take any risks, so maybe Anthony [Martial], but it might just be even a few more days before he’s ready, so probably the squad will look similar to what it did on Wednesday.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s comments suggest that Anthony Martial will not be fit in time to facet he relegation battlers, which the following six players have been ruled out through injury indefinitely:

Matteo Darmian
Ander Herrera
Jesse Lingard
Juan Mata
Nemanja Matic
Antonio Valencia
