Confirmed lineups: Man Utd vs Southampton

Manchester United host Southampton in our final game of 2017 this evening.  We will be looking to end the year on a high after back-to-back draws.

The Saints are winless in their last eight Premier League matches and have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 10.

Jose Mourinho confirmed earlier in the week that Romelu Lukaku has to start up front because of a lack of options whilst the boss has made one change to the defence since Boxing Day.

The confirmed lineups are as follows:

Manchester United

David de Gea; Ashley Young, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw; Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic; Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan; Romelu Lukaku

Substitutes: Sergio Romero, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, Axel Tuanzebe, Ander Herrera, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford

Romelu Lukaku continues up front despite starting every game this season, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic not even on the bench.  Both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are among the substitutes as Henrikh Mkitaryan and Juan Mata start down the wings for us today.

Expect full-backs Luke Shaw and Ashley Young give us our width against Southampton’s leaky defence this evening.  Victor Lindelof is back in the starting lineup as Marcos Rojo drops to the bench after being replaced at half-time in our 2-2 draw against Burnley on Boxing Day.

Souhampton

Alex McCarthy; Jack Stephens, Maya Yoshida, Wesley Hoedt, Sam McQueen; Oriol Romeu, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg; Sofiane Boufal, James Ward-Prowse, Dusan Tadic; Shane Long

Substitutes: Fraser Forster, Jeremy Pied, Bednark, Steven Davis, Mario Lemina, Nathan Redmond, Manolo Gabbiadini

Mauricio Pellegrino has made a number of changes to his out-of-form Southampton side which includes goalkeeper Alex McCarthy making his first appearance of the season.  The former-Reading and Queens Park Rangers player has kept only three clean sheets in 23 career Premier League appearances.

Injuries to full-backs see youngsters Jack Stephens and Sam McQueen given the duties to deal with our wide men.  The latter is making his first start of the season.

Shane Long makes good runs off the ball up front and starts in place of the suspended Charlie Austin with Manolo Gabbiadini among the substitutes.
