Confirmed: Man Utd squad to face Barcelona

Manchester United kick off the first leg of our Champions League quarter-final at home to Barcelona in under an hour’s time.

The Spanish giants are running away with the league title and are many people’s favourites to lift Europe’s biggest prize again this season. The bookmakers have made Barcelona the favourites for this evening’s first leg.

Meanwhile, our form has dipped in recent weeks and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had a number of injuries and doubts in the buildup to this evening’s game.

In the manager’s pre-match press conference yesterday, Ole confirmed that both Eric Bailly and Antonio Valencia were definitely ruled out, whilst Ander Herrera was unlikely to be fit enough. The Norwegian had been hopeful of Nemanja Matic returning in time.

Unfortunately, neither Matic nor Herrera have been spotted with the rest of the Manchester United squad that arrived to the team hotel earlier today. However, we have had players meeting up with the squad at a later time in the day so there’s still hope.

Marcus Rashford was part of the squad that arrived at the hotel. The young forward had to have an extended warm-up in training yesterday due to a recent injury he has been suffering with.

The Manchester Evening News spotted 20 players, included 18-year-old midfielder James Garner, who trained with the first team on Tuesday. Garner was named as a substitute in one of our games against Valencia and the second leg of our victory over Paris Saint-Germain earlier this season in the Champions League.

The confirmed Manchester United squad from MEN for this evening’s game are as follows:

Goalkeepers: David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant
Defenders: Marcos Rojo, Diogo Dalot, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof
Midfielders: Paul Pogba, Andreas Pereira, Fred, Juan Mata, James Garner, Jesse Lingard, Scott McTominay
Forwards: Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford
