[Confirmed] United squad for Wolfsburg

Manchester United have confirmed Morgan Schneiderlin and Wayne Rooney will miss the Champions League game against Wolfsburg on Tuesday night.

Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera have also not traveled with the team, which sees the surprise inclusion of Nick Powell just over a week since he made his first appearance of the season for the reserves after a lengthy spell on the sideline.

Really do not have a good feeling about the Wolfsburg game given our depleted defence and in all likelihood it will be a super slow midfield of Carrick and Schweisteneger and Fellaini instead of Rooney or Herrera in the hole. CSKA have nothing to play for whereas Wolfsburg won’t want to lose as they will fail to qualify if we beat them and PSV beat CSKA.

It is such a shame that LVG disliked Hernandez so much. We could really use his finishing ability right now. Even if we only had Herrera I’d be more comfortable as he is composure personified. Fellaini is not a striker whatever LVG likes to think and while Martial is a really promising kid he didnt score much for Monaco and he’s missed a lot of chances recently and his confidence seems low.

I think it will all depend on who scores the first goal (if any). If Wolfsburg score first you really can’t see LVG having the balls to go all out attack to score the two goals to win and besides we only have one recognized striker thanks to the summer sales! But if we score first having conceded only three goals in the last two months you’d fancy us to shut up shop.

I think the big decision is whether to play with wingers i.e. Young and Lingard . Or to go with Mata and Depay who offer more of a goalscoring threat. I’d probably take the former approach because with Fellaini and Martial upfront the most likely way I can see us scoring is Fellaini getting on the end of a decent cross and either scoring himself or knocking it down for Martial to score. Plus Young and Lingard have performed far better for us this season. I am also secretly hoping that Schweisteneger can roll back the years rise to the occasion and get forward and score a goal or two.

I think it is now safe to say that our summer activity was a complete fuck up. The team is weaker than last season regardless of who claims what. Selling all our strikers was a stupid idea and was always going to backfire when all hope was placed solely on Rooney’s shoulders. Still building a team around an ageing Rooney is just as ill advised as the summer sales.

All I can say is…Can’t wait for LVG’s 3 year reign to come to an end. Lets just hope mamagement has enough brains not to renew it.

“3 year”? I hope it ends tomorrow. I can’t stomach another year and half of this.

Sadly I agree with you Karl. Selling Di Maria and replacing him with Depay hardly looks like a trade up. Martial is a wonderful prospect but not ready to be the main man upfront. Schneiderlin and Schweisteneger acquisitions means we now have three defensive midfielders and the two defensive midfielder policy is a large part of the reason we create so few chances.

It was a shame Hernandez was let go but LVG was never going to be the father figure Ferguson was capable of bringing out the best from him. He is a confidence player and does best in an attacking team that creates chances. So I can understand why he was let go. Van Persie I’d have thought we could have kept around. He was poor last season but a lot of that was fatigue from the world cup and various injuries and being in and out of the team. But his experience would have been useful.
