Daniel James: Keep, Loan or Sell?

Daniel James joined Manchester United from Swansea City in the summer of 2019.

He was brought in as someone who can make darting runs from the right flank and create opportunities for the team.

In 26 appearances this season, he has scored just five goals and assisted twice.

He has failed to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with Mason Greenwood often favoured on the right flank.

James will face more pressure if Jadon Sancho makes his way to Old Trafford.

The arrival of the Borussia Dortmund star will further limit his game-time.

This leads to the question if the Red Devils should sell Wales international to recoup some funds.

At the age of 23, James still has a long career in front of him.

He possesses plenty of pace which can be lethal during counter-attacks.

His poor decision-making in the final third has drawn severe criticism.

However, this is something he can improve on in the training sessions with the help of coaches.

If Solskjaer wants to build a team that can challenge on multiple fronts, he needs to have a bigger squad.

Intense competition for places has been one of the primary reasons for success behind previous United teams.

The speedster should not be afraid of rising competition and focus on developing his game.

His direct runs can open up defences and provide width to the team. By contrast, Greenwood prefers to cut inside and allows the full-back to overlap.

Having players with different characteristics will help the manager to change his strategies based on the opposition.

Verdict: Keep.
