Eric Cantona predicts where Manchester United will finish in the league next season

Manchester United favourite Eric Cantona has made a bold Premier League prediction for the Red Devils ahead of the forthcoming campaign. The Red Devils had a disappointing 2018/2019 season by their standards and they could only secure a sixth-place finish after accumulating just 66 points from the 38 games.

Since then, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has placed the emphasis on pursuing young British talents with a view to the long term and the supporters could be forgiven for setting lower expectations for the 2019/2020 season.

Still, Cantona has a different view on the club’s situation and on his Instagram account, he has posted of himself holding a parrot with the caption: ‘Please repeat after me: « United will be champion this year! »’ – while tagging the club’s official account.

United were a massive 32 points behind arch-rivals and Premier League champions Manchester City during the previous campaign, and that exhibited a notable quality gap between the Mancunian giants.

Solskjaer has recently said that the signings of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are real X-factors for the team next season, but it surely appears a long-haul to match Cantona’s expectations of the title.

The Red Devils are likely to make more signings with Bruno Fernandes and Sean Longstaff on their radar, and any push for the English crown may depend on a quick and positive start to the season, which was not the case last term.

Otherwise, the club should be aiming to make at least the top four of the Premier League, given a team of Manchester United’s calibre can’t afford a second season without Champions League football.

Solskjaer’ side can also qualify for the elite competition by winning the Europa League title, but that should not be prioritised from the beginning, though there remains the chance to secure another piece of European silverware.
