Falcao a chance that could not be missed

9d95a711-b618-4707-a19c-9859617bc117Louis Van Gaal has said he could not pass up the opportunity to sign Radamel Falcao, once he was made aware that the Colombian might available this summer.

With Manchester City, Real Madrid and Juventus all chasing the Monaco striker, United entered the race yesterday morning, blitzing their rivals and finally securing the 28-year-old on a season-long loan, with the option to make the deal permanent in 12 months, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

“I am delighted Radamel has joined us on loan this season. He is one of the most prolific scorers in the game,” said Van Gaal.

“His appearances-to-goal ratio speaks for itself and when a player of this calibre becomes available it is an opportunity not to be missed.”

The Colombian striker said: “I am delighted to be joining Manchester United on loan this season. Manchester United is the biggest club in the world and are clearly determined to get back to the top.

“I am looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal and contributing to the team’s success at this very exciting period in the club’s history.”

Welcoming Falcao meant United had to bid farewell to Danny Welbeck, who joined Arsenal for £16m, and Javier Hernandez, who moved to Real Madrid on loan until the end of the season, with James Wilson to play understudy to Wayne Rooney, Falcao and Robin Van Persie.
