Fergie’s Cleverley About-Face

“He is an exceptional young player in terms of his ability to play a variety of positions,” Sir Alex said on Friday. “He can play in central midfield and on both wings. He is such a talent, we must keep him. He showed at Watford that he’s a goalscorer from midfield and we need that. Apart from Darron Gibson, we don’t have a lot of goals coming from midfield. The days of expecting [Paul] Scholes to score 15 goals a season have gone now. So we needed to look at that area and there’s no doubt Cleverley has outstanding qualities as far as goalscoring is concerned.”

Several reports over the past week said he’d be moving out on loan, but he isn’t. Yesterday, I’d remarked that I would prefer Cleverley to stay at the club. I would still like us to either loan or sell Gibson and give Cleverley an extended run in the side. If we’re not buying big stars we might as well give our more promising youngsters an extended run.

  1. what that grognard, mate i dont understand what you just said lol…Im on about Piers Morgan, you know the geezer that writes for the press, Arsenal twat who keeps belittling us and talking crap, he broken out nut house again, claims in mail on sunday that Utd wouldnt make top-4, claims rooney will crumble this yr, dick claims city, chelsea, l’pool, arsenal have better sides. The guy smoked some bad shit as only reason he be talking rubbish, we will take back our crown and jerk knows it that why ran mouth.

  2. @Grognard: I have to say, and i might sound crazy for saying this, but on the whole i have really not enjoyed this decades (inc 2000) games on offer, with the COD series being one of the few games i actually enjoy playing.
I have played every COD game there is and they are great, whether WW2 or the modern warfares which were great (albeit a bit too short for my liking).
Other games i would mention fifa, footie manager, gears of war, gta and resident evil. Then on the wii (yeah i know) i love the old school platform games such as mario galaxy and zelda.
But on the whole tbh i prefer the old games consoles, the n64 being my particular favourite. I dont know what it is but for all the great graphics, online playing, blu ray etc i just dont feel the game titles they produce these days are anywhere close to the days of n64 and ps1.
I dont mean to start a games debate on a united blog but thats just my opinion. Compared to the days of n64 the titles i currently own on my xbox and wii are few and far between.
But i will say when they make a game well (like the COD series(they are breath taking), just dont seem to produce them as much as they did in the past imo. I think the main problem is they are running low on ideas for games these days which is why on the whole 90% of the games made today suck, but others no doubt will disagree.

  3. @Grognard: All 3 will no doubt go on to be up there with the best in their respective positions, all at clubs other than united i might add.
I think rodwell is the likeliest to join but for some reason i just dont see him joining. Hes just signed a new 5 year contract, and with the state of current football would likely cost £30m.
Now to me he is probably worth that, hes only 19 and has the potential to be a great great player. But we all know cheap as fuck fergie wont throw the little cash he has on one player, especially when hes got giggs and scholes who can keep playing until theyre 45 🙄
Its depressing because in the old days we probably would have gone out and spent whatever was needed to buy these 3, even ozil and neuer despite the notable handicap of being german 😆 We all know how much he hates them dont we, but still in their case i think in the past he may have made an exception.
Shame really because these 3 players could have grown with the rest of the young players, and we could have been in a position where we had 6/7 very young players all of who were top class players. But its depressing to think about so maybe i shut stop dreaming.

By the way grog, all this about fergie going to the fulham match, in which ozil played a part. Anything in this you think?
I know its probably going to ammount to jack shit, and as you know im a moany bugger most of the time, but im trying to look at this with a bit of positivity for once.
Its a bit weird to say the least. We have an open training session in manchester with the entire united squad and hes a no show.
He goes to watch a fulham team missing 6/7 of their main players in a meaningless friendly despite the fact its our scouts that usually go and watch our opponents we play soon.
Seems weird to me. Still wouldnt surprise me if the man purposely went to the game knowing full well of the stories it would most likely create, all to get the fans hopes up and then to totally destroy them within an instant, in an attempt to get another one over the fans he so obviously has no time for.
That or he was running the rule over paul knochesky. You just dont know with fergie these days. As i said its probably bollocks but im sick of coming across as a modern day scrooge on here, maybe i should look at it positively with a bit of optimism and pray theres just something in this.

  4. @as: Rooney will be fine but he probably will fall off a bit from last year due to World Cup hangover and less playing time. As for the club, I just don’t know. The team could win it or finish out of the top 4. They are dancing a very fine line and injuries could derail the whole thing as well as old players finally coming up short. Only time will tell. I may be down on Fergie for a lot of things but that man can squeeze water out of a stone.

  5. @tonymontanna4united: My favourite games came out in the mid 90’s. I was an avid wargamer (thus the nickname ‘Grognard’) and so many great games came out on the PC. Then the XBOX’s and Playstations came out and the quality computer games designed for intelligent people dried up because companies sold out to the kids and the childish video game. Fortunately video games have come a long way since then but still, I miss those great games on the pc like the Close Combat series or Battleground games designed by John Tiller or Games like Caesar 1,2 and 3 and Sim City as well as games like Commandos and Aces of the Deep etc. I miss games packed with 200 page manuals and tons of historical information. 😥

  6. @tonymontanna4united: I should add that I would give up graphics, especially 3D shooter graphics for intelligent tactical game play again. Nothing better than when a game feels like an intense thinking mans version of chess.

  7. @tonymontanna4united: If Fergie wants Rodwell bad enough, the five year contract is no problem. The whole point of the long contract is so that Moyes can use it as a bargaining tool to get the best price for him. It’s not meant to be taken literally. This kind of stuff is done all the time. My big worry of course is that Fergie no longer has the kind of money to play along with this kind of negotiating.

  8. @Grognard: Grog have you tried Commandos? It is brilliant for working brains to the limit. I & II are recommended, more than a match for normal humans at hard settings.

  9. @Rahul: The Commandos series of games are my second favourite pc game of all time just behind Atomic’s ‘Close Combat’ series which for me is a live version of the classic board wargame ‘Advanced Squad Leader’. I love Commandos for it’s innovative game play it’s premise which is to play in stealth and it’s top down god mode which for me offers great fun and scope. Designed in Spain it’s the one Spanish thing in life that I truly loved (everyone on here knows just how much I hate Spain). I only wished a company like Pyros would make the game again.

  10. @Grognard: Well, unfortunately I don’t see a game like Commandos coming out any time soon. When Eidos made Commandos 4, they seriously fucked up and made it a no-brainer FPS. Sucked the USPs of the game out of it.
