French midfielder’s agent in contact with Manchester United over summer deal: report

The representative of Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot is in contact with Manchester United regarding a summer move, a report from Calciomercato claims.

Rabiot only joined the Bianconeri from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer last summer but he has struggled to make an impact and has started only 14 games in the Serie A and Champions League combined.

As a result, he is understood to be frustrated over the situation and Calciomercato reports that United have been offered the chance to land his signature.

Rabiot is said to be valued between £22m and £26m but it is suggested that the Bianconeri could be open to including him as a makeweight to sign Paul Pogba in a part-exchange deal.

United are currently loaded with midfield options in the squad and there does not appear the need for any reinforcement unless there is a possible departure during the summer.

Pogba’s future with United has been the subject of much debate in recent months but it appears highly unlikely that any interested club will meet their £100m asking price amid the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A player-plus-cash deal including Rabiot could be an option for the summer but it remains to be seen whether United are open to the prospect of signing the ex-Paris Saint-Germain youngster.

Rabiot is quite efficient with his passing, tackling and ability to win aerial duels but he would require the assurance of a starting spot, should he make the move to Old Trafford.

However, that may be far from guaranteed with Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic having impressed in the midfield this term when Pogba has been out of contention due to a nagging ankle problem.
