Greenwood and Gomes start, Predicted Man United lineup (4-2-3-1) to face AZ Alkmaar

Manchester United are scheduled to host AZ Alkmaar in their final group stage game of the Europa League. The Red Devils have already sealed their progress to the next round of the competition but they need to avoid a defeat against the Dutch outfit on Thursday night to ensure the top spot and a place among the seeded teams for Monday’s round of 32 draw.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Predicted Lineup:

Sergio Romero has started in three of the club’s five Europa League games this term and he should definitely start in goal against Alkmaar. In the defence, a complete overhaul is expected from the Manchester derby over the weekend. Axel Tuanzebe is likely to return to the starting mix and he could be accompanied by Phil Jones, who has recovered from a minor muscular concern. In the full-back positions, Ashley Young and Brandon Williams should feature.

In the midfield, both Scott McTominay and Fred should be rested after two testing games against Tottenham and Manchester City in the space of four days. Andreas Pereira will most certainly return to the starting lineup and he could be accompanied by Nemanja Matic, whose availability has been confirmed by Solskjaer in the pre-match press conference.

Further forward, the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Daniel James should be rested and they may come off the bench at best. Jesse Lingard, on the other hand, remains doubtful for the clash with a knock picked up in the Manchester City.

In this case, we are fancying Juan Mata, Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong to start in the attack even though the latter two played through the entire game for the Under-23s on Monday night. Mason Greenwood deserves another opportunity to lead the attack and he has the chance to add to his four senior goals for United this season.
