‘I want to stay at United’, Manchester United star clear about his future plans

Manchester United ace Andreas Pereira has said that he is determined to remain with the Red Devils amid the recent speculation linking him with a possible summer exit.

The Brazil international has managed 37 appearances during the course of the current season but his playing time has drastically reduced with the winter arrival of Bruno Fernandes.

As a result, a recent report from The Sun claimed that the 24-year-old could head through the exit door at the end of the season but the midfielder remains keen on fighting for his place under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“Ole knows we will always be there for him. The young players give our faith and do everything to protect him, as he gives all his trust to us. I’m very honoured and that’s why, as well, I want to stay at United,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s official website.

Pereira was a regular starter under Solskjaer during the first half of the campaign and he was preferred ahead of Jesse Lingard for the attacking midfield position on a number of occasions.

However, the Brazilian was disappointing with his distribution in the final third of the field and that eventually contributed to the club purchasing Fernandes to enhance the creativity from the number 10 role.

Since Fernandes’ arrival, Pereira has been restricted to only 188 minutes of first-team football in the space of nine games for United and he has failed to make the matchday squad a couple of times.

As such, it is quite clear that the versatile midfielder is no longer a regular starter, especially in the Premier League and it remains to be seen whether he can redeem himself under Solskjaer when the season resumes.

Under ex-boss Jose Mourinho, Pereira opted to join Valencia on a season-long loan (2017/18) after failing to receive assurances of gametime and it won’t be a surprise, if he pursues a fresh challenge in the near future.

He has to be honest with himself and accept that he has to contribute better (which I believe he is capable of if he starts knowing the right decisions to make in the final third) so as to remain in the club
