Ibrahimovic set for United reunion as Milan receive major boost on injured striker

AC Milan have received a major boost ahead of their upcoming Europa League clash against Manchester United with star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic returning to fitness.

Ibrahimovic has been on the sidelines since Milan’s 2-1 Serie A win over Roma on February 28 and he missed the away trip to Old Trafford last week.

But the Swede striker returned to training on Tuesday and, according to Sky Sport Italia, is expected to be available for the encounter against his former club which is set to take place at the San Siro Stadium on Thursday.

This could be the first time he would reunite with his former teammates since leaving the club in 2018.

The Swede striker joined the club as a free agent in 2016 and made an instant impact. During his two-year stint at Old Trafford, Ibrahimovic won three titles and scored 29 goals in 53 games.

While United fans will be delighted to see Ibrahimovic in action, he is a major threat to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s hopes of winning the competition.

The 39-year-old continues to defy his age, as he has been in tremendous form this season, scoring 14 goals in 14 matches.

His current Serie A run has also sparked a return for the veteran forward to the international arena, and he has been named in Sweden’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifying fixtures, five years after his initial retirement.

Simon Kjaer’s injury-time goal at Old Trafford last Thursday gave Milan a crucial away goal, which means United have to either win 1-0 or by a two-goal margin this time around.

Ibrahimovic’s presence will only make things difficult for United defenders to keep a clean sheet, but Solskjaer will hope captain Harry Maguire can produce a big performance at the San Siro.
