Liverpool team news: Klopp confirms triple injury boost for Man Utd clash

Liverpool travel to Manchester United in good stead for Saturday’s lunchtime Premier League kickoff at Old Trafford.

The Reds have won their last three Premier League games comfortably since drawing 2-2 at home to Tottenham Hotspur, and have comfortably progressed to the Champions League quarter-finals with a 5-0 aggregate victory over FC Porto.

We currently sit in second place and hold a two-point lead over Liverpool heading into the weekend.

Ahead of the game, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has given a team news and injury update to the media.

The German coach was able to confirm that Andy Robertson, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum are all in contention for the trip to Old Trafford.  Robertson and Wijnaldum had been unavailable for their Champions League draw at home to Porto on Tuesday night whilst Henderson suffered a dead leg in the final minutes versus the Portuguese Primeira Liga leaders.

Klopp has been quoted on Liverpool’s official website from this afternoon as saying:

“Robbo is clear. Clyney is still on a very good way, with no further injury since he has been back,” said the manager at his pre-match press conference.

“Hendo, dead leg, looked OK yesterday. Gini is also on the way back and looked good. Him and Ben [Woodburn] lost one or two kilos [due to illness], but should be OK again. It was normal in training.”

Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Nathaniel Clyne is still short of full match fitness.  He added:

“Clyney is back but has absolutely no rhythm. Why should I make changes now? Trent is doing really well. For Clyney it is very important that he can still build up, so if there is the moment when we really need him he is ready for that. That’s the situation.

“Nobody wants a player to have a long-term injury but if it happens then sometimes things change a little bit. Clyney didn’t lose a percentage of his quality but he has no rhythm, one match in the last nine months or so. That cannot be the same like it is with the other two boys, Joe and Trent. That’s it.”

This news means that right-back Nathaniel Clyne is the only absentee for the Merseyside club.  The England international has not played a single minute all season due to injury with Klopp switching between youngsters Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

We have a much larger injury list with Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera, Anthony Martial and Zlatan Ibrahimovic all unavailable.
