Man Utd star wants more than 50% pay rise to stay

Manchester United could be set to enter a contract war with Maourane Fellaini as the Sun are claiming the Belgian star wants a significant increase on his current wage.

The 29-year-old is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and has made an excellent start to the 2017-18 season.

David Moyes signed Fellaini for £27.5 million from Everton when he replaced Sir Alex Ferguson as manager in 2013.  The big midfielder initially had a four-year contract with the option of a further year.  That clause was triggered back in January this year to keep him at the club until next summer.

Fellaini has made three starts and a further three substitute appearances in our first seven Premier League games this season, scoring three goals.  The only league game he has missed was the only game we conceded goals and dropped points in – the 2-2 draw at Stoke City.

In fact, we’ve not conceded a single goal in the 421 minutes Fellaini has played across all competitions this season.

The Sun are reporting that Marouane Fellaini is currently earning around £80,000-per-week but could demand as much as £130,000-per-week to stay – a 63% pay rise.

This past summer the box-to-box midfielder was strongly linked with moves to both China and Turkey before Jose Mourinho announced that there was no way he would be leaving.

How true these reports are remain to be seen but it would be a surprise if we were to increase his wage significantly given that he has struggled for during his previous four years at the club and has only made his three starts since Paul Pogba picked up a hamstring injury last month.
