Man Utd to battle Spurs & Leicester for £40m-rated midfield star

Manchester United will be in the window for at least one central midfielder this summer, following the departure of Ander Herrera when his contract expires at the end of next month.

A number of players have already been linked with us, and one of those is Leicester City loanee Youri Tielemans.

The 22-year-old only joined the Foxes on loan in January to avoid a relegation scrap with the 2017 Ligue 1 champions that sees them only outside of the relegation playoffs on goal difference, and two points above automatic relegation with two games to go.

Sky Sports understand that Leicester are now desperately trying to push through a deal with AS Monaco to secure Youri Tielemans on a permanent basis amid fears that both us and Tottenham Hotspur may make a move this summer for the Belgian international.

Tielemans took no time to settle into the Premier League and was one of their stars under Brendan Rodgers as they finished 9th this past season. The lure of European football next season could certainly help Spurs or ourselves to his signature instead. TeamTalk reported that he was rated at £40 million as recently as this past Sunday.

He scored three goals and assisted four more in only 13 Premier League starts this past season. He likes to take a shot or two on goal in each game, create chances, win free kicks and make a couple of challenges too. Tielemans has excellent passing ability and a good long-range shot on him. He’s a complete midfielder and given his age, has a long time left in the game.

Sky Sports claim that Monaco have made no promises to Leicester and will instead be seeking the best price possible for the central midfielder. Given that Tottenham haven’t spent a penny over the past two transfer windows, puts us in a strong position to sign him. We can also offer Europa League football next season – a competition that Leicester won’t be playing in.
