Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool are ready to go head-to-head for the signature of RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano, according to The Mirror.
The 22-year-old has seen a great rise in his stock recently, with several top European clubs interested in securing his services.
The talented defender has started 17 times for Julian Nagelsmann’s side in the German top-flight this season, scoring a goal and an assist.
He also clocked up 38 appearances in all competitions for the Red Bulls last season, earning two assists.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool lost Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to injury early in the campaign and are now desperate to bring in a new defender.
For the Red Devils, centre-backs Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly are all performing well at the moment. However, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wouldn’t want to miss out signing such a talented player.
It has been reported that Upamecano has a £38 million release clause in his current contract, which can be activated at the end of the campaign.
United will reportedly look to trigger the clause early in a bid to land the 22-year-old ahead of the Reds.
