Manchester United confirm agreement to sign 25-year-old playmaker

Manchester United have confirmed that they have finally reached an agreement to sign midfielder Bruno Fernandes from Portuguese side Sporting.

A recent report from Goal.com revealed that United had agreed on an initial £47m fee to sign the 25-year-old and the club have now released an official statement confirming the deal.

“Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Sporting Clube de Portugal for the transfer of Bruno Fernandes. The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

Fernandes is currently in Manchester to finalise the necessary formalities before signing a long-term contract and he needs to be registered by 12 pm on Friday in order to be available for selection for the Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday evening.

United have spent almost the entirety of the transfer window on the solitary purchase of Fernandes but there could be another possible signing before the 11 pm deadline on Friday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be eyeing a striker with a physical presence upfront and The Express has recently claimed that Krzysztof Piatek, Islam Slimani and Odion Ighalo are probable transfer targets.

Solskjaer’s side bowed out of the League Cup at the semi-final stage on Wednesday night after a 3-2 aggregate defeat to cross-town rivals Manchester City across the two legs.

United managed to register a second-straight victory at the Etihad Stadium with a 1-0 win but that was only a consolation as they paid the price for an average display in the first leg at Old Trafford.
