Manchester United would be able to complete a deal for Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig as early as the upcoming January transfer window, believes The Athletic correspondent for German football, Raphael Honigstein.
Upamecano has been one of the many French names bursting into the European football scenario over the recent years.
Famous for his pace, aggression and agility on the field, Upamecano has been on the radar of Manchester United for a while.
The aspiring defender signed a new deal at Leipzig last July, extending his stay at the club until 2023.
However, as per the reports suggest, his new contract holds a €42 million release clause which would only be activated next summer.
Honigstein revealed United could sign him in the upcoming January transfer window, six months ahead of the actual move, just in the way Chelsea did while attaining the services of Christian Pulisic in 2019.
The German football expert clarified that Manchester United would have to hurry this time to agree on a pre-contract with the Frenchman as an abundance of European top clubs is after the French prodigy.
Manchester United have already conceded 11 goals in the Premier League from three matches.
And an addition like Upamecano would become likely should the senior defenders of the Mancunian club continue making eye-watering mistakes on the pitch.
