Manchester United end their search for a new left-back: report

Manchester United have reportedly ended their search for a new left-back with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer convinced that Brandon Williams can compete with Luke Shaw for the position.

The Red Devils have previously been linked with a number of left-backs around the world with the intention of finding a competitor for Shaw, who has had his injury concerns.

However, they have managed to find a solution for the same through their academy with Williams proving the ideal deputy when the England international has been on the sidelines.

Moreover, Williams has also been favoured ahead of Shaw on a number of occasions this term and The Sun reports that the youngster could emerge as the first-choice left-back in the future.

The same publication cites that Solskjaer has been pleased with the progress of Williams since his debut in October and he does not feel the need to make a purchase to strengthen the left side of the defence.

Williams has made 26 appearances in his maiden campaign with the senior squad under Solskjaer and out of those, only seven have come from the substitutes’ bench.

As such, he has been a regular feature for the Red Devils over the course of the campaign and has also played alongside Shaw, who has slotted into a back three at regular intervals since the turn of the year.

Williams only signed a fresh long-term deal with United earlier in December last year. He has more than two years remaining on his existing contract with the option for another 12 months if required.

Apart from Shaw and Williams, Diogo Dalot is another player at the manager’s disposal for the left-back role and the club have sufficient defensive depth to cover up for any injury crisis.
