Transfer Rumours

Manchester United given boost to sign £58m valued defender

Bayern Munich defender David Alaba can leave Bayern Munich this summer.

Today, BILD reports that the 28-year-old wants to ensure Bayern picks up a transfer fee if they cannot agree with improved terms. His contract runs out next season and the player wants to move so that he doesn’t leave on a free transfer

Sky Germany reported last month that Alaba’s advisors had held contract talks in Lisbon with Bayern chiefs, and an offer of £13.5m-a-year (£260,000-a-week) was rejected.

It is believed the two parties are some way off with Alaba keen to become one of the club’s top earners which currently includes star striker Robert Lewandowski.

Alaba is one of the best defenders in the world. His pace and skills have been a revelation for the position. His versatility is also one of his biggest strengths.

Alaba has been linked to premier league giants Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United in this transfer window.

Chelsea signed Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell so there’s no reason they’d be interested to splash money on Alaba.

Manchester City are undergoing a defensive overhaul this summer and Guardiola is a big fan of the Austrian, having managed him during his time at Bayern.

However, the Citizens have signed Nathan Ake from Bournemouth and are in ‘advanced talks‘ with Kalidou Koulibaly. In the left-back department, they have Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchencko.

Manchester United are looking for a new left-back this summer. Luke Shaw is the present first choice in that position but has injury problems which is a concern for the manager. His deputy Brandon Williams is too inexperienced to challenge for the position.

United have held talks with Sergio Reguilon and Alex Telles.

David Alaba can be a revelation in that position for United. He can easily link up with the attack and defend solidly.

It remains to be seen what kind of transfer fee would be acceptable to Bayern. The German champions hope to convince the defender to stay at the Bavarian club.

Alaba is valued at £58m. [source-TranferMarket]
