Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani has decided to extend his stay at the Theatre of Dreams, per ESPN’s Moises Llorens.
The 34-year old striker showed his world-class ability on Thursday against Roma in the Europa League semi-finals.
He was directly involved in five of the six goals netted by the Red Devils in the game.
Cavani scored two goals, won a penalty and assisted twice inside 90 minutes.
Over the last few weeks, Cavani has been rumoured to be returning to South America after failing to adapt to English conditions.
However, his performances of late have been so impressive that United fans have urged him to stay for another year.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was quizzed on his contract situation after the game against the Italian outfit.
He said: “He knows my feelings, he knows that I would love to have him for another year, we have spoken about it.
“I understand this year has been very difficult, but I promised him that Old Trafford and Manchester is a different place with fans in the stadium.
“I’m doing my best, nights like this [help], hopefully, we can get to the final and hopefully he can see himself being here for another year.”
“We’ve got the best fans and, as a goalscorer, there is no better feeling than scoring and celebrating in front of them.”
Now it seems like that the Uruguayan international has decided to spend another year at Old Trafford.
ESPN’s Moises Llorens revealed in his tweet that United’s number 7 has changed his mind and is ready to sign a contract extension.
He went ahead and said that the official confirmation can be made as soon as next week.
Cavani is not a long-term fix. However, during his time in England, the veteran striker has shown that he still has plenty of fuel left in the tank.
