Manchester United to hand Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a new three-year contract

Manchester United are prepared to offer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a contract extension despite losing the Europa League final against Villarreal.

Solskjaer’s deal with the Red Devils is set to expire next summer but the club believes that he is the right man to take the team ahead.

According to the Telegraph, United’s manager will be backed with a new three-year deal that will keep him at the club until 2025.

Under the Norwegian boss, the Red Devils have made significant progress over the past two seasons.

They finished at the second position in the Premier League for only the second time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.

In the last two years, they made it to four semifinals and advanced to the Europa League finals.

They are yet to win silverware but the hierarchy thinks that the club is moving in the right direction.

Red Rants view

United have finished in the top four of the Premier League in each of the last two seasons under Solskjaer’s management.

The major weakness of his team has been their inconsistent performances.

They have defeated big teams like Manchester City and Paris-Saint Germain in hostile territory.

At the same time, they have lost to Sheffield United, Crystal Palace and Villarreal.

Following their Europa League final defeat, Marcus Rashford stated in a passionate interview that the players believe in their manager.

Solskjaer has always stressed that taking the club to its former glory will be a long process with many ups and downs.

Handing him a new contract is a sign that the club hierarchy trusts the process the manager talks about.

However, the owners also need to back him up with new signings this summer.

The boss has already stated the need to reinforce the squad to challenge Manchester City for the league title next season.

Jadon Sancho, Harry Kane, Declan Rice, Raphael Varane and few other A-list players have been linked to a move to Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen how many of these marquee players will make their way to the Theatre of Dreams this summer.
