Ole gives injury update on Eric Bailly

Manchester United could be without Eric Bailly for the start of the season after the Ivory Coast centre-back went down with a knee injury in our 2-1 pre-season victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.

The 25-year-old has been plagued with injuries ever since he joined us and it was within the opening 10 minutes of the game that Bailly had to be replaced by Axel Tuanzebe.

We kick off our 2019-20 Premier League campaign against Chelsea on Sunday 11 August and it sounds like the Ivorian won’t be part of our side for that one.

Speaking to MUTV after the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave an injury update on Eric Bailly:

“It seems that he’s twisted his knee so we just have to do some scans and checks on him.

“At first sight, it doesn’t look great but let’s see how it goes.”

Eric Bailly had already missed this summer’s African Cup of Nations in Egypt due to an injury picked up against Chelsea as it appears the defender simply cannot get a break. He made just 12 Premier League appearances last season, largely due to injuries.

Ole does have a lot of options at centre-back, with Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe and Marcos Rojo all on our books, whilst we’re reportedly closing in on the signing of Leicester City’s Harry Maguire too.

Tuanzebe has impressed in pre-season so far, whilst the 21-year-old formed a solid partnership with Tyrone Mings to help Aston Villa gain promotion back to the Premier League last season.
