Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms three key stars are ruled out of Liverpool clash

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that the trio of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and David de Gea won’t be available for the forthcoming Premier League against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Pogba made a short comeback from an ankle injury to face Arsenal and Rochdale last month but he appears to have aggravated the same problem and looks set to miss the visit of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

On the other hand, Lingard picked up a hamstring injury during the goalless Europa League draw at AZ Alkmaar and he has not recovered in time to face the Premier League leaders.

“No chance [of Pogba or Lingard being fit]. Paul had an injury, he came back, he worked really hard. He came back and played a couple of games, maybe played through the pain barrier,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

In addition to the pair, Solskjaer confirmed that De Gea will likewise remain out of contention after sustaining a groin concern on international duty, and only a scan will determine the extent of the setback.

When asked about the Spaniard’s injury situation, he continued: “David needs a scan. I think he’ll be out. It certainly looked like it anyway, judging by last night, so it’s just one of those things.”

United have been hampered with numerous injuries during the opening eight league games and that has genuinely affected their form as they have managed to register just two wins.

Despite the triple injury setback, Solskjaer has suggested that there could be some positive news on the fitness front with Aaron Wan-Bissaka (tonsillitis) and Anthony Martial (thigh) possibly making their comebacks.

Still, the Norwegian tactician has refused to provide any assurances over the duo and has stated that the pair may not feature for the entire game, based on their current levels of fitness.
