Two goals in the final 20 minutes saw Wolverhampton Wanderers book their place in this season’s FA Cup semi-final at the expense of Manchester United, and Wolves are a good bet with this bet365 bonus code to make it to this year’s final.
After an even first half the West Midlands side were on top for most of the second half before Raul Jimenez fired them into a 70th minute lead. We didn’t test the opposition goalkeeper after before Diogo Jota doubled Wolves’ lead on the counter-attack less than 10 minutes later.
Marcus Rashford scored a consolation with one of the final kicks of the game.
Here are how our players fared:
Sergio Romero 7 – Stunning fingertip save from a close range header and a couple more from the Argentine to show he’s one of the best backup goalkeepers in England. Beaten by a sharp, low effort from Raul Jimenez midway through the second half. Beaten at his near post for Wolves’ second.
Diogo Dalot 6 – Offered width going forward and defended fairly well.
Chris Smalling 5 – Struggled dealing with the Wolves attack and with set pieces. Fortunate not to concede a penalty in the first half.
Victor Lindelof 5 – Our defence struggled to deal with both Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota who both got on the scoresheet. Initially received a harsh red card in the final 10 minutes before being reduced to a yellow card by VAR.
Luke Shaw 6 – Got in plenty of crossing positions but rarely picked out a teammate. Beaten too easily in the lead up to Wolves’ second goal that killed the game off. Excellent assist for our stoppage time consolation.
Nemanja Matic 5 – Wolves had a lot of success in the middle of the park as Nemanja Matic was passed around by Wolves’ central midfield trio.
Ander Herrera 5 – Booked for a cynical foul in the second half and looked aggressive after so Ole replaced Ander Herrera immediately after Wolves took the lead. Looked after the ball adequately but didn’t create anything.
Paul Pogba 6 – We failed to get the ball into Paul Pogba’s feat enough. The playmaker created little all evening and didn’t test John Ruddy once.
Jesse Lingard 5 – Saw a lot of the ball in the number 10 role but didn’t create anything nor test the opposition goalkeeper.
Marcus Rashford 6 – Had a few efforts on goal but only scored in the 95th minute.
Anthony Martial 5 – Struggled to get up with the pace of the game and was never a threat to the Wolves goal.
Andreas Pereira (20 mins) N/A – Had an effort go narrowly wide shortly after coming on but nothing else of note.
