Predicted Manchester United XI v Istanbul Basaksehir: First start for ‘ultimate professional’

Manchester United will return to action tonight when they take on Istanbul Basaksehir at Old Trafford in the Champions League.

United will head into the Group H match against Basaksehir on the back of a 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion at home in the Premier League.

The Red Devils suffered a shock 2-1 loss at the hands of Basaksehir away from home in Istanbul earlier this month.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be determined to make sure that his players do not slump to another shock loss and will want his players to avenge the away defeat.

Jesse Lingard and Eric Bailly are injured and may not play, while Victor Lindelof has been struggling with a back problem, although he did play against West Brom.

Solskjaer could decide to give Lindelof a list and bring Axel Tuanzebe back into the starting lineup.

Anthony Martial played the full 90 minutes against West Brom and did well, but Edinson Cavani could start.

The former Paris Saint-Germain striker has made a rather slow start to life at Old Trafford, and Solskjaer may want to give the Uruguayan valuable minutes.

Described by Solskjaer as “an experienced ultimate professional who always gives everything for his team” on United’s official website in October 2020, Cavani has made four substitute appearances in the Premier League and two substitute appearances in the Champions League for the Red Devils so far this season.

Bruno Fernandes is in great form at the moment, and the United talisman will continue to pull the strings from midfield.

The Portugal international midfielder has scored six goals and provided three assists in nine Premier League matches and has scored one goal and provided one assist in three Champions League so far this season. Although he is a player that needs to be rested, United need his quality on the pitch if they want to progress to the knockout stages.

Predicted Manchester United XI: David de Gea; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Axel Tuanzebe, Harry Maguire, Alex Telles; Scott McTominay, Fred; Mason Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani
