Premier League: Predicted Manchester United line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Liverpool

Manchester United take on arch-rivals Liverpool in Sunday’s late Premier League kick-off.

The Red Devils are on a three-match winless league run, but they should go into the game with confidence after a stunning 3-2 comeback win over Atalanta in the Champions League in midweek.

Their record against Liverpool has not been great recently with no victories in six league matches, but they can’t afford another winless result if they want to stay in the title race.

They are already eight points behind league leaders Chelsea, who recently registered a spectacular 7-0 triumph over bottom-placed Norwich City at Stamford Bridge.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Predicted Line-up:

David de Gea has been in sublime form for the Red Devils this term, making several stand-out saves. The Spaniard has answered plenty of critics, and there are no longer question marks over his position. He is expected to start in goal ahead of Dean Henderson.

The backline could remain unchanged from the Atalanta encounter. Raphael Varane has returned to individual training after a groin issue picked up on international duty, but the game may come too soon for him.

In midfield, there could be an enforced change after Fred picked up a hamstring injury in midweek. Solskjaer has not ruled out his availability, but he appears a big doubt. This could see the return of Paul Pogba alongside Scott McTominay.

The Frenchman was benched after an average outing at Leicester City, but looked lively in his midweek cameo. He will need to show a better defensive resolve which has been lacking when he has been picked to play in the centre of the park.

Further forward, there are doubts over the fitness of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes. Rashford suffered a dead leg against Atalanta while Fernandes picked up an injury during a warm-down session a couple of days ago.

Both players will face late fitness tests, and there is a good possibility that the duo could make the line-up. Rashford has been in fine form since his comeback from a shoulder surgery. The England international has shown no signs of rustiness with goals in both appearances this term.

The pair could be accompanied by Mason Greenwood in the three-man attack behind Cristiano Ronaldo. There was much talk about Jadon Sancho starting on the right wing after his summer arrival, but Greenwood has made the position his own with four goals in eight league games.

Up front, there are no doubts over Cristiano Ronaldo’s selection. The Portuguese has gone without scoring for three league matches, but showed his class in midweek with a trademark header to bag the winning goal for a second-straight Champions League game.
