Rashford and Fred start, Predicted Man United lineup (4-2-3-1) vs Man City

Manchester United have the chance to return to winning ways when they host arch-rivals Manchester City in the first-leg of the League Cup semi-final on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils are winless in the past two games against Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers in different competitions but the players should be up for the crunch Manchester derby.

Barring the Gunners clash, United have put up positive displays against the elite Premier League sides this season and the fans will expect nothing less when Pep Guardiola’s side visit Old Trafford.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Predicted Lineup:

David de Gea is expected to return in goal following a rest over the weekend. In the defence, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw are likely to replace Ashley Young and Luke Shaw in the right and left-back positions respectively after playing no part in the goalless draw against Wolves in the FA Cup third round.

Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire have been the regular pairing at the heart of the backline but Solskjaer has presented doubts regarding the fitness of the latter following his knock against Wolves.

In the case of his unavailability, Phil Jones is the likely candidate to accompany Lindelof, particularly with Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo still working on their fitness after their respective injuries.

In the centre of the park, Fred is set to return to the starting lineup and he will definitely partner Nemanja Matic. Both Scott McTominay (knee ligament injury)  and Paul Pogba (ankle surgery) are on the sidelines and they are expected to miss out on both legs of the Manchester derby.

Further forward, Marcus Rashford and Daniel James are pretty much regulars on the flanks and they should make the starting XI. Andreas Pereira probably gets the nod of Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard in the number 10 spot.

Anthony Martial missed the recent FA Cup tie with an illness but he has reported to the club’s Carrington base following the Wolves clash. Provided he is deemed match fit, he should replace Mason Greenwood in the centre-forward position.
