Real Madrid midfielder agrees to join Man Utd

Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez has expressed his desire to join Manchester United following discussions with Jose Mourinho over the phone, according to reports.

The Colombian is currently in the first season of his two-year loan deal at Bayern Munich from the Spanish giants after failing to establish himself in Zinedine Zidane’s side.

Rodriguez is having an impressive season with the German champions having scored six goals and recorded 10 assists in only 21 Bundesliga appearances (17 starts).

The 26-year-old also featured in all 12 of Bayern Munich’s Champions League matches this season (8 starts) with his sole goal coming against his parent side during their 2-2 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Tuesday night in which Jupp Heynckes’ side were eliminated 3-4 on aggregate.

However, El Gol Digital (via TeamTalk) are today reporting that James Rodriguez is keen on a move to Old Trafford after talking to Jose Mourinho over the phone.  The report also says that the boss wants to bring the player to Manchester United this summer.

This comes despite TeamTalk reporting that Bayern Munich have already stated their intentions to activate a clause in his loan deal that will allow them to make the move permanent for £37 million this summer.

Should James Rodriguez not want to stay at Bayern Munich on a permanent basis then one would have to question the German giants’ incentive to make the deal permanent.  He has started only a few more than half of their league games this season.

We shall have to see how the situation develops over the coming weeks and summer as we head towards the opening of the summer transfer window.  There’s no doubt with Rodriguez’s ability that he could be an excellent addition at Old Trafford if given the freedom by Mourinho.
