Sky Sports provide fresh update on Manchester United’s pursuit of Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United have received a fresh blow in the transfer pursuit of Bruno Fernandes with Sporting Lisbon reluctant to lower their £68m asking price for the Portuguese midfielder.

The Red Devils were regularly linked with the 25-year-old’s services last summer but they decided against meeting Sporting’s £39m price tag due to concerns over the player’s distribution.

Since then, the former Sampdoria man has gone on to sign a new long-term deal until June 2023 with Sporting and the Portuguese side have now significantly increased their valuation of the player.

According to Sky Sports News, United are willing to offer £43m plus a further £17m in add-ons for the midfielder but Sporting are not prepared to accept anything less than £68m.

The same outlet claims there has been an impasse in the negotiations but talks could resume next week with the Red Devils identifying Fernandes as their prime target for the January transfer window.

United are clearly stating that they won’t pay inflated fees for any of their transfer targets this month but the ongoing saga has come to the point where both sides are reluctant to negotiate.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is definitely in need of the creative outlet behind the club’s forwards but they must find a quick resolution over Fernandes’ pursuit or look elsewhere to strengthen the attack.

Fernandes is certainly worth £68m with his contribution of 13 goals and 10 assists in the league and European games this term but the United board clearly don’t share the same stance.
