Paper Round-up

Ten minutes of madness, a summer of regrets?

With the FA Cup circus rolling into town, Fleet Street hacks have a lot on their hands today, but with a potentially crucial – one way or the other – day in the Premier League tomorrow, there’s plenty to read regarding Manchester United.

For the first time in years, the Sun, the Mirror and the Guardian all agree with each other as they report Fergie’s thoughts on the Everton game. The Scot is convinced that if United were to lose the title, the last ten minutes against Everton – in which United squandered a 2-goal lead – would come back to haunt them.

The broadsheet goes a step further as Rob Smyth covers the dip in form that United have suffered at home this season compared to the almost perfect run they enjoyed last year. United, says Smyth, have conceded the highest number goals in all competitions (31) since the 1970s and the timing has been especially damaging.

Could the subdued atmosphere that plagues Old Trafford these days be revitalised on Sunday? Reds’ hopes lie with Papiss Cissè, continues Smyth.

Finally, two transfer news, one of which might not please United fans.

First the Daily Mail reports that Eden Hazard is currently house-hunting in Cheshire ahead of a move to City as the Blues are trying to hijack United’s bid for the French playmaker, while the Guardian reports that Nicolas Gaitan has apparently expressed his interest in moving to the club and his agent is quoted saying that “Gaitan would like to play for United”.
