United striker loaned to Wigan

Henriquez Loaned to WiganWigan Athletic have signed Manchester United’s Chilean striker Angelo Henriquez on loan until the end of the season.

The 18-year-old forward was signed by United from Universidad de Chile in the summer but has yet to make his senior debut, he did however appear for Chile for the first time last month against Serbia.

“We’re really excited about Angelo because he is a very young man with a huge potential,” Wigan manager Roberto Martinez told the Wigan website. “He’s a goalscorer with clever movement inside the box and has had a very successful time with his former club Universidad.”

Henriquez was happy with the move. “This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I am really excited after the manager has given this chance for me to prove myself,” he said. “Now I need to work to try and earn my place in the team.”

Wigan has proved to be a decent place to gain experience in the past with fellow Red Tom Cleverley spending a successful season there in 2010/11. Cleverley made 25 appearances, scored 4 goals and impressed Martinez, Ferguson and also then England manager, Fabio Capello in his short time at Wigan. Hopefully Henriquez will benefit in similar fashion and begin to display the talent United believe he has after producing only a few moments of promise during his season in the U21’s.

Good Luck Angelo.
