Manchester United were 4-2 victors at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night to move within five points of Premier League leaders Manchester City.
Ashley Young score twice inside the space of six minutes midway through the first half before Anthony Martial appeared to put the game beyond doubt on 32 minutes when the French forward made it 3-0 following some poor defending from Watford.
Young’s first goal was a fabulous strike into the bottom corner, beating Gomes in the Watford goal at his near post from 18 yards. The former-Watford man scored his second with a free kick into the top corner.
However, we allowed the hosts back in the game, first when Marcos Rojo chopped Roberto Pereya from behind in the penalty area to allow Troy Deeney to pull one back from the spot. Then Abdoulaye Doucoure poked home first time, unmarked around the penalty spot to make it 2-3 with little more than five minutes to go.
The one-goal deficit only lasted two minutes as Jesse Lingard scored a sublime solo goal, starting from inside his own half before dribbling around a number of Watford defenders before rolling the ball across Gomes into the back of the net.
